The trailhead is located on mohave county road 5. Can be booked through sat, september 25th 2021. The trail is very overgrown and there is one more short section of burned that is lacking any real trail.

Whipple trail is a 6 mile out and back for a total of 12 miles. Trails are challenging and some are not for beginners. It is also known for its most prominent feature, the pine valley laccolith. After crossing pine creek, the trail climbs out of its forested valley into the rocky, grassy high lands again.
The hike turns right on the west loop trail, the most direct route to the pine mountain summit.
Around 8,800 feet the ridgeline, there is large pine trees among boulders until you reach the ridge top at 9,880 feet 2.1 miles up the trail. It you are a peak bagger looking to summit all of utah's county high points, you'll be hiking this one. The pine valley ranger district is known for its distinctive vegetation, ranging from pinyon/juniper to engelmann spruce forests. Trumbull trail provides exceptional views over a vast region including the toroweap valley, the grand canyon, the kaibab plateau, the western vermilion cliffs, and the pine valley mountains.

The main route starts from the oak grove campground, and follows the trail up the south ridge very steeply, before dropping into forested areas, and then hiking off trail to reach the summit. A mountain island surrounded by desert, pine valley mountain wilderness preserves numerous lush meadows (up to 50 acres in size) and a beautiful forest of engelmann spruce in the south, and spruce mixed with fir, pine, and large stands of aspen in the north.
